The Inspiration Behind Our Latest Kitchen Styling

Blue & White, Garden Flowers & Timeless Style

I've always loved homes that feel like they've evolved over time rather than being perfectly decorated all at once. The rooms I save, the homes I come back to over and over, all have one thing in common—they feel collected.

This week's photos were inspired by exactly that.

Instead of styling individual products, I wanted to create a room that felt lived in. Somewhere flowers had just been brought in from the garden, crystal glasses were waiting for friends to arrive, and beautiful pieces had simply found their place over the years.

The goal wasn't perfection.

It was creating a home that felt welcoming.

 

Bring the Garden Inside

One thing I almost always come back to is flowers.

Not perfectly arranged flowers.

Not expensive floral centerpieces.

Just flowers that feel like someone clipped them from the garden and casually laid them on the counter while deciding where they belong.

I love when fresh blooms soften hard materials like marble, brass, and porcelain. It immediately makes a room feel more relaxed and lived in.

For these images, I paired pale blush White O'Hara garden roses with delicate Queen Anne's lace because I wanted everything to feel a little imperfect—in the best possible way.

 

Blue & White Is My Favorite Neutral

I never think of blue and white porcelain as an accent color.

To me, it's almost a neutral.

It mixes with antique wood, marble, brass, wicker, crystal, silver—even fresh flowers from every season.

One oversized ginger jar can anchor an entire room, while smaller pieces layered nearby keep everything from feeling too formal.

I also love mixing polished materials like crystal and silver with handmade pottery and garden-inspired pieces. The contrast is what makes everything feel collected instead of matched.

 

Rooms Should Feel Like Life Is Happening

One thing I realized while shooting these photos is that I've been thinking differently about styling lately.

For a long time I focused on creating little product vignettes—and those still have their place.

But lately I've found myself wanting to photograph entire spaces instead.

Not because every corner has to be filled, but because rooms tell a story in a way individual products never can.

I want you to be able to imagine walking into the kitchen, setting down groceries, trimming flowers from the garden, pouring a drink, and actually living in the space.

That's become much more interesting to me than simply photographing an object.

 

Decorating Beyond the Countertops

One of my favorite tricks is bringing outdoor-inspired pieces inside.

Garden stools, planters, wicker, weathered pottery—none of them have to stay outdoors.

In fact, I think they feel even more special when they're mixed into everyday living spaces.

Using different heights throughout a room also helps create that layered look that collected homes naturally have.

Not everything belongs on a countertop.

Sometimes the floor needs beautiful objects too.

 

Creating a Home That Feels Collected

If there's one thing I hope these images communicate, it's that beautiful homes don't happen overnight.

They grow.

You collect pieces that make you happy.

You find the perfect lamp months after you've bought the table.

You discover an antique ginger jar that somehow works perfectly with brand-new flowers from the grocery store.

Those little layers are what give a home personality.

This collection wasn't really about summer.

It was about creating a home that feels timeless, welcoming, and thoughtfully collected—one beautiful piece at a time.
